lolitslea’s New Single “Tragedy (feat. Jack The Underdog),”

On August 11th, lolitslea released her new single, “Tragedy (feat. Jack The Underdog),” alongside a new music video to go with it. This is before lolitslea’s upcoming album, RollerCoaster Tycoon, which drops on September 15.

Analysis of “Tragedy” (feat. Jack The Underdog)”

“Tragedy” is a rush of pop-punk excitement that throws back to the nostalgic Y2K scene while telling a modern tale of searching for love. In a world full of dating app hook-ups, it comes from the voice of someone who wants something deeper than that; a love story that’s filled with deep emotional connection. The fast paced rush of the music also seems to play into the narrative, as the modern dating scene seems rushed. In many cases it’s constantly rushing to find respect and connection with someone and instead speedrunning dates through an app.

As the chorus goes, “I’m so tired of the standard always being hookups. I’m just looking for love.” This chorus, in general, has a really catchy allure to it that begs to be belted out on a drive. It has a bright, punchy tone, and it also has a nice rhythmic vocal intensity that acts as an exciting driving force to it. Moving back to the lyrics, it does well at explaining the tragedy of looking for a long-lasting love and instead just finding a sea of one-night stands. 

Musically, the opener of this song has synths that make it feel like being in an arcade game, but then the band cuts on, and it captures that really nice full pop-punk sound with a focus on warm, thrashy guitars and exciting percussive lines. The production is clean, and there’s something cuttingly sharp about the delivery of every different aspect. Also, lolitslea and Jack The Underdog take the stage at different points, but their harmonies with each other really pull this release to the next level.

Tragedy Music Video

Alongside the track, lolitslea released a music video that really captures the vibe. The skatepark used as an atmosphere mixes with the bit of distortion works well to dash the musical nostalgia into the visuals. Also, it’s really fun how there’s on-scene recording and some green screened portions dashed in as well. This is done in a way that feels really purposeful. Also, that’s not to mention how the colored-hair and alt street aesthetics of the artists pairs them together in terms of visuals very well. The music video is so fun, and the saturation makes the colorful aspects truly jump out.

The Upcoming Album: RollerCoaster Tycoon

So far, there are 3 single releases leading up to the release of lolitslea’s second record, RollerCoaster Tycoon. It’s going to drop on September 15. Aside from “Tragedy (feat. Jack The Underdog),” there are “BURNOUT!! BURNOUT!!” which released June 9, and “Summer 09” which dropped on July 7. There’s so far been something to build up anticipation for the album each month, and it’s going to be a big one. RollerCoaster Tycoon is going to be 17 tracks long, and with only 3 currently released, that’s a lot of new music to look forward to. Here’s the tracklist:

Even the names of the tracks are a fun and throw back to a nostalgic time, playing games like RollerCoaster Tycoon on a Windows XP. In terms of what also is upcoming, lolitslea will be performing at the House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ on September 6. She will also be in State College, PA on October 16 at 3DOTS Downtown. These line up perfectly before and after the album, which helps build even more excitement and holds momentum after its release.
