Rare Candy “Love Right Now” Single Review

Updated: 5 days ago

Rare Candy released their latest single, ‘Love Right Now’ on May 23, 2025, that captures both nostalgic folk and pop sounds.

The question is: how strong can love really be?

As of right now, “Love Right Now” is the ultimate yearning song of the summer, incorporating emotions of regret and hopefulness for the future of a relationship.

The song begins with a healthy amount of harmonic blues along with an upbeat guitar, which is a classic staple in folk pop. The lyrics began with the admission that the ending was not to one's liking, as expressed in the words, “I may have made a mistake/ I dragged this out longer than you or I could take.” The first step in admitting the possibility of being part of the problem. Then, the song immediately jumps to the chorus/title of the song with “show me just a little bit of love right now.”

The chorus and title of the song might be the most important lyric because the idea of love in this song is surrounded by desperation from a few different angles. The first being the hesitation of the conversation, but finally admitting the regret of ending things. Then, it leads to “love” acting as a crutch in order to move forward with the conversation while anticipating the outcome. This is perfectly illustrated during the lyrics “I need someone to show me how, how, to move along / I really need to feel like I belong.” This also could mean the idea of ‘I can’t do this alone.’

Something interesting to note about this song is that while its end goal is closure and the possibility of regaining love, words such as 'parasitic" "burnt out’ and "blue" are present at the same time.

“Our love was parasitic” describes, while addicting, it was all too much to handle. “I’m feeling all kinds of burnt out” sounds exactly how it is described. Burnout happens when one has taken on too much which results in exhaustion. Finally, “but maybe you were red when I was blue?” talks about two different in one place. This follows “maybe in another life/we’ll give it all another try?” All of this together illustrates how love is not a one-dimensional phenomenon; love is full of negatives and positives, and it’s all up to each individual for how they will proceed. As the song closes, it joins back up again with the harmonic blues; however, it is followed by a dainty piano number, which gives a sweet touch of symbolizing a hopeful closure, almost like a “whatever happens, happens” moment.

This new song truly is one for the love yearners and it encourages the audience to be critical when it comes to love, but not entirely give up on the feeling itself.
