The intro to davvn’s new release “any other girl” starts softly with distinct guitar picks and clear vocals. The lyrics start off capturing the feeling of loving friends but feeling like reaching their potential of societal, or self-set, standards seem impossible. The intro beautifully captures the pain of longing for the lifestyle of anyone through the emphasis of davvn’s lyrics: “I want to be any other girl but me.”
A real voicemail then cuts in on the mother of the vocalist, McCall, giving a sincerely genuine reminder that overcoming the feelings of not being good enough come from heavily within. Giving a sense of hope for anyone, not just McCall; comfortability and reassurance can be found knowing that people have different perspectives of how individuals tend to perceive themselves.
“any other girl” is about wanting to be as free of an individual as you can be, yet terrified of not being accepted. The transition from the beginning of the lyricism to the end of this track is something so important to. To display feelings of jealousy are not always ill intended, but instead are deep rooted in a natural fear that everyone experiences growing into their true selves. Even with the best reminders, fear of backlash or living in the shadows of others, are so ingrained into society that often many feel nothing they accomplish will ever be enough.
Mike & McCall of davvn took listeners through the emotional rollercoaster that is life in their new release “any other girl”. By the end of the track, davvn’s lyricism switches from longing to be someone else to rather embracing life— “Everything comes naturally / No, I don't want to be any other girl but me.”
“any other girl” is a listen for everybody. Despite the title; any individual can find comfort within the pure, raw masterpiece that was created in this track, perfectly encapsulating the journey anyone can experience through their life.
