Haunted Mouths’ first release was the sweetest surprise to many fans of the iconic vocalist, Kellin Quinn. It’s undeniable that Kellin Quinn has held one of the most distinctive vocals in the post-hardcore/rock genres since the early 2010’s. Quinn is most known for his work as the lead vocalist in Sleeping With Sirens. The artist had already booked his 2025 with the upcoming Sleeping with Sirens and Pierce the Veil stadium tour, but Kellin Quinn’s first single under his new solo project, Haunted Mouths, “Further Til We Disappear” was released January 16th.
This track definitely has unique tones in both the vocals and instrumentals. With that being said, long time fans still have the ability to relate this project’s debut single back to some of his older project releases when listening to this track. In addition to this upcoming tour, fans of the artist’s prior work have shown nothing but continued support and eagerness since the announcement of Haunted Mouths.
The first line starts off deep, with Quinn expressing, “Further down the rabbit goes / Shut my eyes, keep you close / See if we find something here”. At first listen, this could be interpreted as an expression of feeling like going down a rabbit hole with another individual. However, longtime fans of the artist’s work may see the unintentional, or potentially intentional, hidden connection to an older song Quinn sings with Sleeping With Sirens, “Scene 2- Roger Rabbit”. Both of these songs have a center focal point of love.
Further into the track, the chorus confirms the track being about the action of loving something/someone and displays raw, realistic emotions within relationships.
The chorus is filled with a range of feelings—“Love is a trip, it's a child that we can't manage / Let the waves crash and swell / Hold them in, try not to panic / Turn me on like a switch / Is it hard to imagine wе're state of the art? / Wе're so state of the art”. Within 30 seconds, Haunted Mouths was able to unfold feelings of doubt and loneliness into longing and commitment in one relationship.
The chorus heavily supports the triangular theory of love. Famous psychologist, Robert Sternberg, formed this theory in the 1980s on interpersonal relation in love having three main components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. This theory also supports the idea that throughout life, “different sides” of the triangle (intimacy, passion, and commitment) naturally vary in carrying “different weight” over time, just as Quinn inconceivably presents the same theory within the raw vulnerability in his work.
This track perfectly encapsulates the complexity of pain and beauty within love as well as loss. The atmosphere and emotion within “Further Til We Disappear” can be felt through the song itself, which is beyond impressive. Haunted Mouths’ first release creates ethereal and calming auras all while still having soft vocals, clear synthy instrumentals, and consistent and effortlessly composed sounds.
Quinn’s passion and talent are evident in all his work, but Haunted Mouths’ inimitable sound has set a high tone of eagerness for his debut-album release of A Collection of Greetings available to hear on February 14th, 2025.
