Lil Poppa Talks Personal Life and Industry Balance with Starwave Magazine in °1824 Press Conference

Updated: Jun 17

Allie Loven [Co-Founder/Editor]: As someone myself who launched my career in the music industry at the mere age of 14, our team wanted to personally ask you— what has changed the most for YOU in the past decade of life from inside the industry vs before you started creating music? Whether that be day-to-day life itself or the creative process of your work— Reflecting back, what has been the biggest change, good or bad, you’ve noticed within yourself since the start?

Lil Poppa: LP: “Probably me learning how to say “No” I guess, learn how to stop being so nice. That might sound crazy, but it’s really something you gotta learn; you know, you don’t wanna just be continuously ran over. You know sometimes you just, you gotta get some tough skin; yeah, grow some tough skin [I see someone commented— know your worth— exactly, for sure].”

Allie Loven [Co-Founder/Editor]: I noticed that all of your shows on your current tour are all-ages, and I wondered if even that simple, yet SUCH significant, accommodation was intentionally created to allow the younger generations coming up after us to be welcomed/allowed in your spaces. Was there a reasoning for the entire tour to be all age inclusive?

LP: Just because my fans; they’re all ages. So, I have kids, grandmas [and grandparents] that listen to Lil Poppa; so, I just wanted to make it a safe space for people to come heal. Like a therapy session.

Allie Loven [Co-Founder/Editor]: I’ve seen artists your age, much younger or older, that think they know the formula to “making it” but the truth is, it takes more than talent and perseverance. With all of that in mind— How have you continued to manage ways to “show up” for yourself after all the years in the game?

Lil Poppa: Because I’ve seen it be[ing] done years before [myself]. I’ve always been into music and everything like that. So, I watch artists like Lil Bowow and I watched it be done, and I know what it takes before the social media wave came in. [Then,] that’s all it took to become a star. I actually studied music and still do to this day.

°1824 Rep: ‘What is something that really inspired you to get in the booth and write this upcoming album?’

Lil Poppa: Just waking up everyday that inspires me to go to the studio; I just love to record. I don’t usually write anymore I just punch in so . If I can be in the studio all day, I will, and whatever I experience throughout that day? Let’s make a song out of it. I dont care if I just heard a sound ,a beat, or noise; I'm trying to put it together to make magic out of it. Also , to my Engineer as well, EJ is a major help in the profess of making my music we just make the best out of every studio session.

Anyone involved in the creative entertainment industry, have to at some point be able to create without the support of anyone, blood or not. Your pressure to the industry continually being steadily applied, shown throughout the past decade of your career, that as long as you show up for you rest will follow. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions on behalf of our team here at Starwave Magazine, Lil Poppa. Thank you to Safira from °1824, UMG’s cultural marketing department for hosting this incredible press conference that we were able to be included in on to hear about how Lil Poppa has grown into the artist he is today.
