Breakup Shoes "Copacetic" Single Review

Phoenix, AZ indie-pop band Breakup Shoes may be teaching listeners all a unique word of the month: Copacetic. The word is an unusual adjective that means “fine, excellent,” or “satisfactory”, yet still does not have a known origin story. While the word has a foggy past, it has been taken up as the title for Breakup Shoes’ latest single. "Copacetic" is listed as the eighth song on their upcoming album, Standing Still, which is set to be released on October 10, 2025. Now, the question remains... will this single cause us listeners to adopt a new word into our vocabularies?

It is truly refreshing to hear a song that illustrates the idea of living a full, yet simple life, because what is life without the balance of rushed excitement and slow living? "Copacetic" dives into the topic of difficult memories of a relationship without feelings of anger.

This reflects that we do not need to look at the past with only negative feelings, but with a little mix of longing and fondness.

The singer, Nick Zawisa, carefully crafts his voice to convey enough emotion to capture these nostalgia-laden lyrics while maintaining the light, melancholic theme of the sound, which creates a captivating experience for the listener. An example being the lyric, “let’s make believe that we finally found some peace.” This represents a part of life that a lot of people can relate to. Everyone has had to deal with the hard times of moving on and then being in the clear, but deep down, we’ve all caught ourselves daydreaming about those “what if” moments.

This is a song to truly vibe to. It is like going on a mid-day drive in the summer or the freshly turned fall, with the sound soft and inviting, yet still holding a sense of climax as the song unfolds. The sound perfectly complements the bittersweet lyrics of "Copacetic" by following along with fast-paced instrumentals, featuring the dainty highlight of percussion, illustrating that reminiscing about the past can be sweet, but life must go on with positive hope for the future.

The overall listening experience of this single is dream-like, with a smooth blend of somber vocals paired with an upbeat, yet calm, sound. Despite the lyrics and thanks to the good-vibing sound, this song can still be played during a hangout with friends, without overly devastating lyrics that trigger a massive crying session. "Copacetic" only brings curiosity for what’s to come for the upcoming album, or, in this case, maybe we play pretend of what’s to come?
