first of all, thank you for taking the time to complete an interview with us at Starwave.
Thank you for having me!!
your song has a folk-pop sound to it; is that intentional, especially with your background in Nashville!?
I’ve always connected with a more grounded, singer-songwriter sound. I’m very lyric/melody based in my writing, so my arrangements are usually shaped to be complimentary to that. Living in Nashville is certainly great encouragement to continue with the more acoustic, folksy sound; I’m surrounded by so many indie artists and friends who inspire me to stick with the sound! It’s not all country over there!!
your vocal range is strong within the song “Bitch”. Showing the highs and lows both metaphorically and literally within your voice.
Thanks! My dad always likes it when I’m belting so hopefully I made him proud with this one.
was this song inspired by any personal events or just highlighting humanity’s feelings?
It was more of an opportunity to step into the shoes of an unapologetic and confident character. I’m not always 100% secure in myself and have struggled with self-image, so this character is almost aspirational for me in some ways. I love to have fun in my writing and tackle life from different perspectives, so personifying that alter ego can be really thrilling.
What do you think that the release of “Bitch” will bring you in this next era?!
I hope this release solidifies me as an artist who can embrace humor and go a little over the top. I made a wild music video for this tune with tons of friends that is so wacky and whimsical, so I hope to continue leaning into that let the little details keep shining through.
What was your favorite moment in the entire creation of this track?
I got to bring my band to a gorgeous studio in Chattanooga called Lula Lake Sounds to live track this song and a few others. It was a magical weekend and we had so much fun playing music and being surrounded by beauty. My band is made up of some of my best friends in the world and it a joy to travel and create with them.
Is there anything you’d like to share with fans here on starwave about this single!!?
I promise I’m not a bitch!! It’s a character! :) But seriously, I hope this song allows listeners to embrace the parts of themselves that people might think are “too much”. I think we can all afford to be a little more unapologetic moving forward!!!
