"Where I Lay" - Movements

Movements has been on a roll for years, but they are putting in nonstop, dedicated hard work for themselves and their listeners.

On February 19th, the iconic Orange County rock band, Movements, dropped yet another release for fans right before their US tour with Citizen kicks off. This new release is a single titled: “Where I Lay”.

Listening deep into the lyricism and connection within “Where I Lay” brings a full circle, no pun intended, to their single release of “Afraid to Die” in 2024. Within the first line of this single, “I fear I’m bad at life,” this ties directly to the lyrics in “Afraid to Die” when the plead of “tell me it’s okay, everything’ll be fine” was released.

People may be strayed to think that there’s a different message; and they’re not wrong. Every song is different in its own respect and this song leads a different message than any other.

The song starts off with distinct drumming paired perfectly with soft vocals. Towards the chorus, both instrumentally and vocally, the intensity and passion within the single becomes more transparent and clear to understand.

When the heavier instrumental flow of the song began to pick up, the band still had the ability to allow the lyricism to drift heavily towards feelings of despair and insecurity.

The message of the song centers upon feeling as if truly fitting in is unmaintainable or unachievable without a complete change all the way down to who they are at their core.

Movements has a way of being able to capture any emotion in any musical direction they want to head in. This quality is especially impressive, as many artists struggle to capture even a fraction of the raw emotion that Movements has effortlessly conveyed throughout their career. Movements has never been shy about saying anything on their mind, but the intentionality the band puts into each of their projects is something so important and unrecognized.

This new single release by Movements,

“Where I Lay”, is another incredible work of art composed by the band with the most raw and beautiful encapsulation of vulnerability that anyone can relate to.
