Niall Horan Releases “Little More Time” / Single Review

“Little More Time” by Niall Horan was released this past Thursday, the 23 of April. This single and “Dinner Party”, another new single, were released together. “Little More Time” is in the spotlight for his release for a multitude of reasons including its raw vulnerabilities displayed in such variation.

The intro is gentle. A soft beat yet precisely paired and placed together with Niall Horan’s vocals. It sounds a little southern/country compared to his previous releases, but draws a new tone and rhythm to an already significantly talented artist, Horan. The chorus is exactly the title—“Can I get a little more time?” Asking for more time with someone who means a lot seemingly to the author of the song. The song parallels with some of his previous work like “Gold Rush” done via Spotify with the acoustic track. This song is full of words describing the beauty and pain within parting ways with someone. The subject of the song seems to be a lover, and, Niall Horan seems to be head over heels, in despair, for more time spent together.

Like the start, the beat is soft with strong guitar. No matter what the context of the song is it needs the vocals strong for this beat. This is important to be distinctive and clear within the lyricism and within that the message. He was punctual and loud about what the message of this single was mentioned above. Niall Horan seems to successfully articulate his feelings of despair in a unique way in this single release. Calling out to someone whose time has ended in Horan’s life, a lover’s voice is undeniable to hear when listening to “Little More Time” by Niall Horan.

Sternberg’s Triangular Model of Love theorizes that when intimacy, determination, and passion are put together, so is a loving bond. His lyrics show all three of these things in the love and affection of the person and their time together. Unfortunately, it seems to be at a halt and Horan is singing first in the Triangular Model and switches to the direction of desperation in the voice dropping lower and sounding more melancholic than melodic as the beginning sounded as the song goes on longer. An outro of these words are sure to hit different at the ending:

“You're dancing down the hall (A little more time) / So cinematically painted (A little more time) / I'm climbing up the walls, the plane is taking off / But I need a little more time”. This song is a love letter to his lover personally and how he wishes he could change his reality with them.
